The Art for Land
Art for Land – is a collaborative action of Aurovilians and friends of Auroville to raise funds for the purchase of the still-missing lands to consolidate Auroville’s Master Plan area.
Art for Land is organized by Auroville’s Unity Pavilion in collaboration with Acres for Auroville and Auroville Art Service to support the A4A “Acres for Auroville” land campaign.
In 2015, Art for Land was born when an Ashram artist proposed that Acres for Auroville create an art fundraiser for the land. This idea was accepted with enthusiasm as a way for artists to contribute towards the land throughdonating their works in a consolidated action with the proceeds going to secure the Land. With this idea artists from Auroville , the Ashram, India at large abroad are welcome to participate in what has become series of exhibitions through the year together with the Art for Land website for online sales.The Exhibition has grown in participation and quality over the years, every year seeing a richer harvest!
We see this as a Gange, the generation of ariver of Generosity which flows towards the realization of the land for the City of Dawn that the Mother had envisaged based on Sri Aurobindos teachings and their shared vision and work.
Numerous Artists from Auroville, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, the worldwide centers of Auroville International, and from all over India, generously donate their works in a wide range of media- painting, sculpture, ceramic, glassware, jewelry, prints and photographs.
All Art for Land proceeds go to the A4A “Acres for Auroville” Land Campaign to be used exclusively by Auroville’s Land Board for the purchase of missing lands within Auroville’s Master Plan area.
The Land is the material necessity for securing the full development of the Auroville vision – the City of Dawn

There are other through the year ongoing activities like fundraising events, concerts, dance performances , the Generosity Fair and the Afternoon Tea Party as well as the Monthly Contributions towards the Land. In 2019 The Art for Land expanded with individual Exhibitions in Pondicherry Galeries and Hotels also and plans to expand its outreach with various organisations and colloborations.
Artists from Auroville, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, from India and the Auroville International and Sri Aurobindo centres abroad have generously contributed their works to support fundraising for Auroville’s designated land. With its ever-growing professional-quality collection of creations in various media, AFL is also a magnificent showcase for Auroville as a creative hub and magnet!
Many of the participating artists enjoy wide recognition throughout India and some works by Sri Aurobindo Ashram artists from an earlier time have been seen and blessed by The Mother. The works can be viewed and purchased at Auroville’s Unity Pavilion during the annual Exhibition cycle and all-year online at https://www.artforlandonline.com/ plus a series of Art for Land exhibitions that are open year-round at Auroville’s Unity Pavilion.
Art for Land’s exhibitions are complemented by associated fundraising events – concerts and dance performances, inspiring presentations, and stimulating art workshops – in addition to everyone’s favorite, the annual Generosity Fair with High Tea.
The proceeds from Art for Land sales and event donations go the Acres for Auroville land campaign and are used for securing the still-missing plots in Auroville’s Master Plan area.
1. Donate Artworks
We invite artists from around the world to donate artworks—preferably on paper or canvas, as these are easier to preserve and transport. Your creations will become part of exhibitions and fundraising initiatives to support the A4A «Acres for Auroville» land campaign.
