The Unity Pavilion
The Unity Pavilion, located on the Crown Road in the International Zone, was started as a seed and catalyst for the overall development of Auroville’s International Zone. Today it consists of the Unity Hall, the Hall of Peace, office space, an Oneness Hall, an outdoor dining space and a garden with open space for hosting outdoor events . The Unity Hall offers space for a wide range of activities such as exhibitions, cultural events, conferences, presentations and lectures, workshops. The Hall can seat up to 250 people, is very friendly and inviting and has proved to be very versatile in its use.
The Hall of Peace was inaugurated on 11 February 2014 and is the home for the Peace Table of Asia, created by George Nakashima , of the Nakashima Peace Foundation, USA. Regular Peace meditations take place, together with other programmes around the Peace Table.
The focus of the work in the Unity Pavilion covers topics such as human unity, world peace, east-west and north-south relations, sustainable development and human potential, development of the International Zone, and the interaction of cultures that defy national borders. The Unity Pavilion is involved in applied research in human unity and unity in diversity. The research has been done in the fields of organisation and economy as well as in the individual and collective development aligned with the ideals of Sri Aurobindo, The Mother and Auroville.
Some outcomes of this work are the Sourcing Our Oneness Program which is an outreach colloboration between a number of organisations connected with the work of Sri Aurbindo and The Mother, as well as the Art for Land project – a fund raising project for Auroville. A team of dedicated people manages the Unity Pavilion administration and activities. The Pavilion is open to host programs aligned with its ideals.
